FAITH


Un cri venu d'une brume, comme dans un rêve.

Tout commence par «The Holy Hour». Une basse sublime qui résonne comme un écho dans cette brume impalpable, une cloche sonne au loin… puis la guitare qui donne le rythme comme pour montrer le chemin... Bref, un début d'album qui donne le ton, une magnifique entrée.

Une ambiance bien plus lourd que «Seventeen Second» s'installe.

«Primary» nous rappelle que le duo de basse n'est pas impossible, mais cela n'est pas un jeu d'enfant...

«Other voice» encore une basse qui monte en puissance avec une guitare beaucoup plus rythmique.

Puis une douce mélodie vient nous faire inévitablement revenir dans cette brune qui cache un rêve.
Un rêve où tout le monde est gris «All Cat's Are Grey» qui enchaine avec «Funeral Party».

Le son du synthétiseur est beaucoup plus présent que dans les autres titres de l'album. Mais cela ne perturbe pas l'équilibre, bien au contraire, ce son nous happe et nous dirige encore plus vers ce rêve...

«Doubt» vient comme un cri pour nous prévenir que la chute est toute proche, et qu'il faut se réveiller.

Mais il est trop tard. Car déjà arrive les premières notes de «The Drowning Man». L'un de mes titres préférés.

Un morceau qui nous emmène dans un monde qui n'a jamais existé. Les souvenirs s'effacent pour nous faire glisser vers «Faith».

Un écho qui, comme des pas, résonne dans une église vide.

Le rêve est devenu mot. Mais les mots sont vides de sens car il nous reste rien d'autre … que la foi.

Faith confirme le désir de Robert Smith de faire sombrer le groupe vers un univers beaucoup plus sombre que les précédents albums.

Il trouve toute sa place dans cette trilogie qui, pour moi, est et restera les meilleurs albums de The Cure.Là encore les versions lives de l'album sont excellentes.

Les titres comme «The Holy Hour», «All Cat's Are Grey» et «The Drowning Man» prennent tout leur sens dans l'interprétation que donne le groupe.

«A Forest» et «Forever» commencent à s'affiner et a devenir les monuments du groupe. Sans oublier le titre «Faith» qui devient pour toujours un morceau magnifique et fétiche des fans;

Un effet à court terme

Un rêve devenu cauchemar, une cicatrice pour une vie, un désir perdu.

Une suite logique de Faith, l'insouciance de vouloir l'impossible.

Un jour étrange où une guitare devient plus électrique, et devient le Jumeaux Siamois d'une basse froide et hypnotique.

C'était mon premier album (vinyle) qui m'a fait connaître The Cure.

Pornography, pour moi, c'est la référence et le début de la fin.

Aucun autre album de The Cure n'a pu dégager une telle énergie ... même après 100 ans, il restera mon préféré.

Pour une fois, les lives sont froids et brouillons. Un effet à court terme, juste le temps de vouloir aller jusqu'au bout ...

Mais la force du groupe est, comme toujours, le live. Des versions de chansons qui, comme dans un jardin suspendu, prennent toutes leurs énergies pornographiques dans le mal être.

Une tension sur scène et une ambiance entre les membres du groupe qui, par tant de froideur, fini par les faire imploser le 06.11.1982 en Belgique.

Mais cela ne regarde que moi, se sont mes sensations envers cet album, qui comme une figure de proue, m'ont fait chaviré dans l'univers instable et torturé de Robert Smith ...

Pour moi, The Cure s'arrête là, pour devenir «cure» plus pop. A part quelques bonnes idées sur The Top telle que «Wailing wall et The empy world», la fin est consumée.

Vu que cette période est ma préférée, je vous mets Paris Olympia 1982.

Les années "Wild Mood Swings" ...

A la première écoute de l'album : track 1: Want ... très bonne surprise.

Puis après, fini le côté "gothique" que de la joie et du bonheur.

Pour moi, la catastrophe ! J'ai horreur de cet album.

Puis, vient les lives. Et là, surprise, The Cure se lâche. De la folie sur scène avec un Robert en pleine forme, du son brute.


Le groupe quitte son coté "all cats are grey" et sort le coté "hot hot hot"...

Des guitares qui partent en solo et les paroles des chansons qui changent. Une très bonne surprise cette tournée 'The Swing Tour'.

Du The Cure qui explose sur scène, de la folie, des versions de chansons très délirantes, du tout bon !

Au final, je ne regrette pas cet album mais les versions lives sont les meilleurs comme d'habitude.

Jusqu'en 1998, les festivals sont dans le même délire.

Je trouve le groupe beaucoup plus libre en festival que dans une tournée bien définie d'un album.

3ème ablum de The Cure où Robert marque de sa patte le son du groupe, moins dur, moins "punk".

Je dirais que le groupe cherche à faire des expériences dans le son avec l'arrivée du synthétiseur. Ainsi que dans leur titre (A Reflection, The Final Sound) qui sont des morceaux instrumentaux.
D'ailleurs Siouxsie* fait des plaintes dans A Reflection.

In Your House et Secrets sont des titres plus doux, plus mélancolique. En effet, je trouve que là Robert commence à jouer avec son SON et son STYLE.

Puis, il y a Play For Today, A Forest, M où là le groupe montre leur envie de jouer. Un pur plaisir sur scène.

Arrive At Night et Seventeen second où les murmures du mal être de Robert commence à surgir comme des mauvais rêves.

Seventeen Second est un très bon album mais qui prend toute sa mesure en live. Il ouvre pour le groupe les portes de l'Europe et des USA.

Pour ce qui est des lives de ces années 80, le groupe s'éclate sur scène et la vrai force de The Cure prend toute sa mesure.

A la fin de la tournée "get a dose of the cure tour", le groupe devient trio et les frémissements de "Faith" arrive doucement ...

2008 : la sortie du dernier album, sur le CD je ne le trouve pas très bon … je préfère entendre les morceaux en live plus fort, plus énergique.

Pour la tournée 2007.2008, je reproche également le coté pop song. Sur 3 heures de concert, il y a la place pour faire des morceaux plus « cold » et plus vieux : In your house , holy hour, siamese twins, the figurehead et même piggy in the mirror etc …

Je sais bien qu’il en faut pour tout le monde, mais bon cela reste très pop quand même.

Et puis, il y a le 3ème rappel qui ne change pratiquement jamais a part 3 ou 4 chansons qui tournent entre chaque shot grrrrr … Jouer jumping someone else train sans être suivie de another journey by train trop fort quand même et forever qui manque a la fin du set = dommage !!

Il n’y a que la tournée américaine où the cure commence à donner de la puissance à leur son.

J’ai trouvé l’Europe un peu mou et lent surtout à paris qui n’a rien de plus que les autres dates.

Au final, la tournée mondiale a été une machine bien rodée et qui a permis aux fans de pouvoir prendre du plaisir aux 4 coins du monde

Mais cela reste the cure !!! Et ce n’est pas possible de ressortir de leur concert sans en avoir plein la tête et les yeux.

Fan de the cure depuis 20 ans, je recherche d autres personnes qui ont la même passion que moi pour ce groupe .

Ma préférence va plutôt vers le 'vieux' cure: la triologie : seventeen second, faith, pornography mais j'apprecie également le reste de leur album : disintegration, bloodflowers, the cure etc ...

En fait, j aime tous de "the cure" surtout les lives
